Ultrasounds
Ultrasounds
Why is it important to have an early limited ultrasound?
- See how far along you are.
- Taking measurements of the gestational sac or fetus will determine how far along you are. This can be helpful if you are not sure when your last period was or when you conceived.
- Make sure the pregnancy isn’t ectopic.
- An early ultrasound will determine if the pregnancy is in the uterus.
- Determine if you are miscarrying.
- Many women have a failed pregnancy but do not have any vaginal bleeding for several weeks. An early ultrasound will show if the fetus is growing as expected and if there is cardiac activity. While it isn’t a guarantee, the presence of a heartbeat is the single best indicator that you are not going to miscarry.
The limited obstetrical ultrasound examination will not diagnose gender or fetal development abnormalities.
